Apply for OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan)

 

What it is:

    When someone becomes a Convention Refugee (i.e. has been accepted as a person needing protection at a refugee hearing), s/he has the right to apply to the Ontario Health Insurance Plan to cover many of your health expenses.

What you need for the application:

  • Rental/Lease Agreement (for the proof of your address) or an Ontario Driver’s License with address written on it
  • Social Insurance Number (proof of signature)
  • Refugee ID (brown ID: IMM 1442), IRB letter acceptance as Convention Refugee).
